Cristiano Ronaldo has denied raping an American woman

Cristiano Ronaldo has denied raping an American woman – describing the allegation as “fake news”

Ronaldo’s lawyers say they will sue Germany’s Der Spiegel magazine, which originally reported the allegations.

The magazine reported that the two reached an out-of-court agreement which involved her remaining silent on the alleged rape and him paying her $375,000 (£275,000).\

The magazine wrote that Kathryn Mayorga had claimed Ronaldo, 33, raped her in a hotel room in Las Vegas.

Ms Mayorga, 34, is reported to have filed a rape report with Las Vegas police shortly after the alleged incident.

In his Instagram Live video, Ronaldo answered a question from a fan and said: “No, no, no, no, no – what they said  is fake, fake news.

“They wanna promote by my name, it’s normal.

“They wanna be famous to say my name, yeah, but it’s part of the job.

“I’m a happy man and all good.”

The Portuguese international is regarded as one of the greatest players of all time.
